The survey opens in a new window to prevent accidental use of the browser “Back” button while the survey is being filled in. The new window that opens has no toolbar, making it much harder for someone to accidentally click Back by mistake.
We want to do this not to stop people leaving our survey (!), but to prevent information being lost half way through. If you press the back button while completing the survey, it’s likely that you would lose information you’ve already entered, depending on what the browser has decided to store in its cache.
Once you have completed the survey, you can close the window used if you wish.
