Problems running the Survey?

To run our online version of the survey you must have Javascript enabled in your browser.

The easiest way to tell if you have Javascript enabled in your browser is to just try to start the survey by clicking this link.

If the survey opens without complaining in a new window like this, then you have Javascript enabled and you can run the survey straight-away. (Note the grey menu links indicated near the top of the window, this shows Javascript is enabled). Also, clicking on the “Begin Survey” button at the bottom of the page should change the display.

If the survey doesn’t open, or opens with a window like this (note the grey menu bar at the top of the screen is missing), and the “Begin Survey” button doesn’t do anything when you click it with the mouse, then you do not have Javascript enabled and you will have to enable it to run the survey (see instructions below).

If the survey opens but you get a security alert from the browser, saying that the web page is trying to run active content which “could harm your computer” then it is perfectly safe for you to follow the prompts to enable scripting and let the page run.

A Security Settings screen will open something like this one, use the scroll bar and scroll down until you find “Active Scripting” and select “Enable”.

(Note, do not confuse this with either ActiveX or Java, neither of which are needed to run the survey. They are very different technologies, despite the stupidly similar names!).

Once you have enabled active scripting, click OK until you get back to the main window.

You will probably get a warning asking you to confirm you want to change the default security settings. It’s OK to do this (but you may want to consider changing it back once you have completed the survey).
